My husband thinks I spend way too much time at mine. Sometimes it is difficult for others to understand how much time goes into the making of a single photograph. Planning, preparing, capturing, editing, and sharing. :) I love it. #thebethadillychallenge
I am inspired by preserving memories, and having photographs to keep these memories close to our hearts. On this day in 2002, I was holding my three day old newborn in my arms when I was told that my cousin and childhood best friend had been killed in a car accident. She was 19 years old, and so was I. We were born only 6 days apart. I had all sorts of feelings; especially about how she never got to experience the feeling of holding her own child. Having children, and experiencing this loss, made me realize that there is nothing more important than having these memories to keep; to hold, to hang on our walls, to view on our computer screens. I immediately began saving for a better camera. My first was a fairly inexpensive film camera. I'm so glad it was one of my first priorities. I used to drop off several rolls of film a week, and anxiously await picking up these keepsakes of baby feet, lashes, hands, smiles; I didn't want to miss a single moment. On occasion I would purchase rolls of black and white film, which seemed to produce better results than color film. I was obsessed with it. You may notice that many of my favorite images are still in black and white. I am amazed at how the lack of color can be so powerful. #thebethadillychallenge
Our very lopsided pumpkin layer cake with almonds. It tastes way better than it's symmetry. :) #thebethadillychallenge
I am a little late with today's challenge, and not because I don't love getting out the camera. It's because I hate being the one in front of the camera. I'm the type of person who gets ready for the day in the morning, and then I don't look at myself in the mirror the rest of the day. I'm just not a vain person. I prefer to see the beauty in others. The one thing that I get the most compliments on is my hair. It's down to my waist, and most of the time, it's twisted up into a bun. I wanted to make a point to include this aspect in a different way, and also, since I hate selfies, (I even hate the word!) I wanted today's challenge to be a different version of a selfie. It may not be the greatest picture on the planet, but for some reason, I kind of like it. I'm absolutely starting to love the look of natural light, so this self-portrait was taken with only window light. #thebethadillychallenge
I can't believe this miracle of ours is 13 as of 3:24 p.m. this afternoon. We officially have a teenager now! We are very blessed, and I can't imagine a single day of our lives without him. Today's prompt is "frame," and this photo is frameworthy to me. #thebethadillychallenge
We've had three days in a row of nothing but clouds. I'm really missing the sunshine, and wish it would just snow already. It's January, and actually raining. I'm hoping there is a break, because tomorrow my eldest son turns 13! I'm sure my camera will be used extensively tomorrow. In the meantime, I decided to go to a local visitor's center, which is called the Starved Rock Lock and Dam for today's challenge. It's really beautiful there, even when it's raining. #thebethadillychallenge
Today was the first day that I was too busy to get my camera out, but I have been working on improving my editing skills. I feel very accomplished. I was 6 months behind on backing up my images, and finally got them all saved. Apparently, I've taken nearly 5,000 pictures in the last half a year! My computer is running a lot faster, so hopefully that will help with my future editing as well. In the meantime, here are some that fit the prompt for the day. These photos weren't taken today, but I did edit them for the first time in Photoshop, and that is part of what I wanted to accomplish this year. #thebethadillychallenge
The light at our favorite park was just beautiful. We never imaged we would be able to go there in the middle of January. It was a wonderful break from winter. #thebethadillychallenge
To be honest, today's prompt is just not very inspirational to me. It is Martin Luther King day, and I really wish it was a little more powerful, but I'm sticking to it, so here it is. It's not iced! (Actually, the first one was. LOL.) I usually go every Monday morning and have coffee with my mother. So maybe there is meaning in this one, that I just hadn't realized yet. #thebethadillychallenge
We were really feeling today's prompt. Everyone was tired, and I think it was partially because of football. My son was wearing his Snuggie that he got for Christmas last year. I know I got feet pictures the other day, but I changed my lens, and wanted to get a different perspective. I think I like this one better. Before long, they are not going to be this cute! I was going to leave out this photo of my husband, but I think if I do, it just doesn't tell the story of our day. Seriously, football. It causes this to happen every time. #thebethadillychallenge
